Far Wider has it's roots in UK rock and blues bands but now we also hook up with great musicians from all over - from Malta to Massachusetts, York to Yonkers as we like to say!

So we’re more of a collective than your average band

Our 2nd single, 'Wise Girls', will be out soon!

Follow us on Facebook or Instagram for news of the launch!

In the meantime here's our first single that came out recently - 'The Other Woman'

And this other woman (our hero? Or our villain?) is not going to sit around watching her phone, waiting for a call that might never come!

She's going to get the guy, whatever it takes. And she's shameless!

“I’m not the other woman. No, no, no!  I am the woman”

 INTRODUCING OUR FEATURED SINGER

Geneva

Geneva's a powerful, subtle and hugely experienced singer who’s worked in pop, rock and blues and has even had an Electronic Dance Music hit!

She's been passionate about music since her very earliest years and her first major success after graduating from music college was as a solo singer.  She was the outright winner of the Spanish TV talent show WOW!

But a year or two later she won a much wider audience as part of Belle Amie on X Factor UK.  More about THAT later!

When she returned to solo work, Electronic Dance Music stars took note and big names such as OD Hunte, Miami House Party and Jupiter Ace invited her to be the featured singer on their productions.  It was Jupiter Ace who asked her to sing 'Glowing in the Dark' and that track was an international EDM success!

Geneva loves the creative energy of working in loose, flexible collaborations like those. And we’re proud to have her in this one!

The Album

We’re thrilled to have Geneva featured on our first album!  (Launch date TBC)

Although these are the first recordings under our brand new band name, we’re an experienced bunch from a wide range of rock, soul and blues backgrounds.

Far Wider's connection with Geneva began a couple of years back when we were searching for a singer with power, subtlety, experience and charisma to feature on our new album.  (We don't ask for much...)

Geneva had taken a step back from the music industry and moved to York but she was keeping her musical chops in good shape by standing in at rehearsals with a great local band while they looked for a permanent singer.

We were captivated when we heard this soulful rendition of Etta James' classic 'At Last'.  It's pure magic!

We immediately hit it off with Geneva and when she visited our studio to try out a couple of songs, it was clear she was that powerful, subtle, experienced and charismatic singer we’d been searching for!

Geneva's told us great stories about her time on X Factor as part of Belle Amie.  We love this one!

It's about how they rebelled against Simon Cowell’s naff choice of song for them and insisted on singing ‘I'll Stand by You’.  This broadcast video shows Louis Walsh taking Geneva's side (maybe just to wind Cowell up). Cowell does NOT look happy (and he’s not a guy to cross!)  But they dug their heels in.

And yes, they powered through to the fourth week of the show…..

Ya boo to you Simon!

Our new album draws deeply on the sophisticated and often surprising music and lyrics of female rock and blues heroes ranging from Annie Lennox and the women of Fleetwood Mac, to Amy Winehouse, Florence & The Machine and right up to to Beth Hart and the fascinating Kaz Hawkins.

The album is rooted in rock and soul but it also draws on blues, cabaret, ska…..whatever we need.

It's coming soon and we hope you'll like it!

In the meantime here's a Spotify playlist of some of the fantastic singers who've inspired us over the years.

It's called "Great Women of Blues & Rock". There are lots you'll know and lots you might not. Ok, we've stretched the blues & rock definition a bit! But why not? We've loved them all.

You'll find it here: https://tinyurl.com/3eab4yfr

Enjoy!

Feels Like Forever It’s 3 o’clock in the morning and I just woke up in a lazy way I turn my head and there you are - my pearl, my cupcake, my caviar It’s 3 o’clock in the morning and my memory’s playing trick with me I can’t explain cos I don’t know how time goes fast and yet time goes slow It feels like forever. Fells like no time at all. It feels like the first time again It feels like forever and no time at all. It couldn’t get much better. It’s love after all It’s 3 o’clock in the morning. There’s no moon tonight but I clearly see I’d lost my way. I’d lost my head but now I know what I need instead It feels like forever. Feels like no time at all. It feels like the first time again It feels like forever and no time at all You’ve got me where you want me. I’ve got you where I need you We’ve got a good thing here, we’ve got a good thing here. I can feel it - we always get along There may be stormy days, there may be troubled times but I don’t care It’s where I do belong It feels like forever. Fells like no time at all. It feels like the first time again It feels like forever and no time at all. It couldn’t get much better. It’s love after all It feels like forever. It feels like forever and no time at all. You’ve got me where you want me. I’ve got you where I need you It feels like forever

My Girl My girl, she gone again My girl, she say she coming back. She don’t say when She’s here and then she gone Says we’ll be fine – gold star. I see no sign of it so far See no sign of it so far I begged my girl to stay She bought a very fast car the very next day She put her red dress on so maybe she does And maybe she don’t She never promised me she won’t She never made no promises I don’t know where she’s at But I know she givin’ it this, she givin’ it that I tell her what I want She says we’ll be fine – gold star. See no sign of it so far No sign She said we’ll be fine She… put her red dress on She said she coming back She don’t say when I begged my girl to stay No sign

Put that down Put that down I’ve given you fair warning Put that down you better keep it clean Put that down. I tell you night and morning Put that down you don’t know where it’s been   Oh Woody, I worry you’re driving me mad I wish I’d ‘a kept my head Oh Woody you wouldn’t be here if I had You’re bad …… bad   Put that down before you hurt somebody Put that down look before you leap Put that down the water’s getting muddy Put that down before you’re in too deep   Oh Woody I’m watching you break every rule I wonder how low you can go Oh Woody, I want you but I’m not a fool You’re cruel …… cruel Oh Woody, I’m waiting, been waiting a while But you’ve something else on your mind You whisper sweet nothings you switch on a smile You’re vile …… vile Put that down, no matter what you told her Put that down before your fingers burn Put that down before you get much older Put that down you’ve got a lot to learn Oh Woody, I worry you’re driving me mad I wish I’d ‘a kept my head Oh Woody you wouldn’t be here if I had You’re bad …… bad   Put that down you’ve got a lot to learn

State of the Heart You remind me of someone Someone just like you You remind me of someone but he said we were through This reminds me of some time like the time before This reminds me of one time when he walked out the door So you're back in town and you'd like to come around So I guess it's good to see ya So just tell me one last thing before we start: Tell me 'bout the current state of the heart I'm delighted to meet you. Have we met before? You seem very familiar and you're hard to ignore You say you've been travelling. Been away a while Never happy in one place. That was never your style So you're back in town and you'd like to come around So I guess it's good to see ya So just tell me one last thing before we start: tell me 'bout the current state of the heart You remind me of someone. Someone just like you You remind me of someone but he said we were through You! Watch what you do. I'm watching you. I see right through you Now - tables are turned. Fingers get burned. Lessons get learned So you're back in town and you'd like to come around So I guess it's good to see ya So just tell me one last thing before we start: Tell me 'bout the current state of the heart So tell me, tell me, tell me where you been Tell me everything about it. Everything you've seen You must have learned something cos you knew nothing at all So tell me 'bout the current state of the heart

The Other Woman I'm not the other woman, no no no. I am the woman I'm not the other woman - don't fool yourself I'm not the other woman. I won't end up on the shelf What makes you think I'll be the loser here? I'm not the other woman. No no I am the woman. I am the woman I've seen the other woman watching her phone I've seen the other woman living life in monochrome That isn't me and that will never be I'm not the other woman. No! No! No! I am the woman I am the woman. I claim my prize I'll pay the price for my deception and my lies Let me remind you in case you forgot I’m not the other woman I've seen the other woman watching her phone I've seen the other woman living life in monochrome That isn't me and that will never be I'm not the other woman. no, no, no. I am the woman. Yes, I am the woman I'm not the other woman. No! No! No! I'm not the other woman No! I am the woman

The Cabaret Queen The girls in the band strike up the opening chord The audience cheer. The men all shout for more The cabaret queen sweeps out to centre stage The artiste supreme who never shows her age The girls in the band play something jazz or blue She teases, she burns. She knows the things to do The cabaret queen - someone you can't explain Somewhere between Garbo and Baby Jane She flashes a glance through lashes that dance like black butterflies And she'll slap you down with only a frown if you fantasise And the girls whisper to each other... He looks a little like her. More than a little like her He's getting more like her every single day He's walking much more like her He's even talking like her. I hear him saying the things she would say It's getting harder to tell them apart Where does he stop, and where does she start Oh, oh, oh, she's looking like a diva……nearly The girls in the band give her the love she needs It's not what she planned, living this life she leads The cabaret queen, standing out there alone The passion machine, throwing the dogs a bone Her face is submerged in cosmetic surgery's tailoring It fits like a glove and only her lovers see everything And the girls whisper to each other... He looks a little like her. More than a little like her He's getting more like her every single day He's walking much more like her. He's even talking like her I hear him saying the things she would say It's getting harder to tell them apart Where does he stop, and where does she start Oh, oh, oh, she's looking like a diva……nearly Oh......... she's acting like a diva Oh......... she's such a diva Oh......... she's looking like a diva , nearly

The River I’m on the rolling river drifting to the sea. I ride the river and I know I could be free I’m always looking forward to the future just ahead I’m always thinking back to all the things my father said. He said Follow the river. It won’t see you wrong But the river’s getting wider. The current’s getting strong This is my future. There is no turning back The water’s getting deeper. Deeper The sky is darker. The waves are rolling in The sea is cold and black somehow The harbour’s far behind me now This is my future. There is no turning back I dream of love and loss and fears and family All those old memories have brought me to the sea The last thing I heard my father say was “Have a good life” Then he walked away But... past and future seem to be just two peas in a pod to me Follow the river. It will be your guide But the river is an ocean a thousand miles wide This is my future. There is no turning back The water’s getting deeper. Deeper The sky is darker. The waves are rolling in Have a good life is all he said. Have a good life. And now he’s dead This is my future. There is no turning back I see the dark horizon beneath the setting sun What use is looking back when all is said and done

Where Did My Children Go? Forgive me sir, for tugging at your sleeve I have to ask you before you leave Forgive me sir, but I need to know. where did my children go? Where did my children go? I have to ask you before you all leave. Where did my children go? Did you steal them? Did you kill them? Did you hurt them? Did you take them for soldiers? Have you seen them? Have you heard them? Did you listen? Did you think of your own children missing? Oh where did my children go? Where did my children go? Forgive me sir, for getting in your way Why should you give me the time of day? But I’ve been searching high and low. Please, where did my children go? Where did my children go? Did you arm them? Did you beat them? Did you mock them? Did you teach them to hate what we taught them? Have you seen them? Oh where did my children go? Where did my children go? Where did my children go? Where have my children gone?

Wise Girls Almost broke a nail. Happened just the other day And my skin's too pale. Need a week in St Tropez Got no cash to pay the rent. Need to find a solid gent Put myself on the market like the wise girls do Don’t be fooled by what you see If you’re wise, don’t you fool with me You’re the one I’m talking to You’re the one who wants to play like players do I need TLC. I deserve it, heaven knows Well, life's been hard for me Nine good men but none propose I don't think I ask too much: tokens only - rings and such And a sweet pre-nuptial like the wise girls do Don’t be fooled by what you see If you’re wise, don’t you fool with me You’re the one I’m talking to You’re the one who wants to play like a player Don’t be fooled by what you see If you’re wise, don’t you fool with me You’re the one I’m talking to You’re the one who wants to play like players do Once I was a snotty kid doing what the good girls did But they said Hey you're no good Get back to your own neighbourhood I learned fast. I learned well I learned that you guys can go to hell I learned to make my own sweet way And make some other sucker want to pay. That's the way Here's the golden rule. Shake 'em up then shake 'em down What I learned in school cut no ice my side of town So I learned to cast a spell. Paint my face. Scrub up well Put myself on the market like the wise girls do Don’t be fooled by what you see If you’re wise, don’t you fool with me You’re the one I’m talking to You’re the one who wants to play like a player Don’t be fooled by what you see If you’re wise, don’t you fool with me You’re the one I’m talking to You’re the one who wants to play like players do Like players do. (I’m a wise girl. You’re just a wise guy)
